Hello

I am a proud single mom of two amazing kids and the President and Founder of Drobec’s Second Chance. I spent over 10 years working as a K9 handler in law enforcement. My first partner was a patrol dog named Drobec, a Connecticut K9 Olympic Champion who stood beside me through some of the best moments of my life as well as the most difficult ones.

Today, I continue working with dogs as a therapy dog handler with my partner, Semper. My experiences working alongside these incredible animals have shaped my passion for advocating for the health, care, and dignity they deserve both during their service and in retirement.

My Story

Drobec’s Second Chance was created in honor of my first K9 partner, Drobec.

Drobec suddenly passed away at the young age of 9. Shortly after retirement, Drobec suffered a medical emergency called pericardial effusion, a condition where fluid builds up around the heart and causes it to collapse. Life-saving measures were taken, however, his follow up appoitment led to the discovery to tumors throughout this lungs, liver, and spleen. One week later, Drobec collapsed again and sadly succumbed to his illness.

Along with the heartbreak of losing my partner, I was left facing over $6,000 in medical bills. During that incredibly difficult time, three amazing women in my life stepped in to help. They reached out to the Hometown Foundation, who generously stepped forward and paid off Drobec’s medical debt. Their kindness gave me relief during one of the hardest moments of my life.

That could have been the end of the story. But I couldn’t stop thinking about the next handler who might face the same situation.

I made it my mission to pay that kindness forward. Drobec’s Second Chance was created to help ensure that no K9 handler has to choose between finances and giving their partner the medical care they deserve. These dogs dedicate their lives to protecting and serving others, and they deserve to live their retirement years with dignity, comfort, and the best care possible.

Preventative care and proper medical treatment should never be sacrificed because of cost. Through this organization, we hope to support handlers and honor the incredible service these dogs give every day.
